About The Site
The So-Cal List is meant to be a tool for supporting the local music scene in Southern California. The site is run by both musicians and fans of independent d.i.y. music who believe that the most powerful and important music is usually created by those who don't have the biggest marketing budget. Fans want to find out when bands are playing and bands want to let people know when they're playing so there is a built-in support system waiting to be harnessed
The So-Cal List is a continuously updated database of show listings, band listings and venue listings. Every show listing is cross-referenced with the bands playing and the venue, so you can find out more information about either one. If you know (or are a part of) a band or venue that is not listed please submit the info and help the site grow.
The main focus of The So-Cal List is indie music. With the continuous expansion and splitting of musical genres there cannot realistically be any sort of musical guidelines for who will use and be listed on this site. You can find everything from metal to ska to folk-rock bands.
What you won't find are show listings for major label acts charging $40+ for you to see them play. It is our opinion that once you've reached that point you no longer need the support of a local music scene.
